How did you become a dominatrix?
I have always had a dominant personality. Right from an early age I can remember being a tomboy and telling the boys how and what should happen whilst playing with them. Then as I got older I changed and started experimenting with clothes and found guys were turned on by what I wore and I found I had a natural instinct to dominate boyfriends without even really knowing that I was doing it. Then about 10 years ago, back home in New York, I was approached one day by a complete stranger who said that he was there to change my life. I really didn't have a clue as to what he meant but I was intrigued. So, that evening I went for a drink with him and then decided to go to his place. When we arrived at his place he asked me to slap his face. I did as he said and he told me I was a 'natural'. I found that I had enjoyed the experience and from there I started working in various S&M houses in the New York area. I decided that this was something I could enjoy and I had the confidence to work hard at my art and decided early on I was going to get to the top of my profession. During my time in New York I made a lot of videos and appeared on a number of TV programmes about the world of S&M and became one of the top dominatrix in New York.
Why did you become a dominatrix?
The main reason for becoming a dominatrix for me, was that I found I genuinely enjoy the 'work' Its hard sometimes, there is a lot of bullshit, but I do it because I get great pleasure from it.
I have always had a dominant personality. The word 'dominate' can take on a lot of different meanings. A boss can dominate his/her staff, I 'dominate' people in various fantasies of theirs or my making. A person can 'dominate' a certain sport or team, so to define the word is difficult, everyone has their own ideas as to the interpretation of the word 'dominate'.
Do you think SM in your country is different from SM in Europe?
Having spend about 5 years at various S&M houses in New York, 5 years ago I moved to Belgium, basing myself in Antwerp. Having moved I then set up my own 'dungeon' in Antwerp. It was hard work, although it is so much more rewarding working for yourself. My 'dungeon' or 'studio' as I prefer to call it is in central Antwerp, consisting of one play room. This is fully equipped with a wheel, cross, suspension, medical table, whipping bench and of course all my favourite 'toys', a large collection of whips and riding crops, and paddles and canes.
I have complete control over how and when I work, which I didn't have back in New York. I find people in Europe a lot more open within the SM world. They are happy to talk about their interests and fetishes which is very refreshing.
Having been well known in the 'gothic/medieval' SM scene, since moving to Europe it has broadened my horizons. It is also interesting to see how a certain 'fetish' is big in one country and sometimes not even known about in another, the world of SM is so diverse in Europe, much the same as the people and countries.
Can you tell us your daylife?
Having my own business gives me the freedom to work when I want. My day begins with a work-out at the gym followed by coffee. Coffee is a must for me otherwise my day will be hell. I have a personal slave who lives with me and takes care of all my needs. This is something I know a lot of men fantasise about, although very few would be able to cope with the job.
I sometimes work about 5 or 6 hours a day on a busy day. This may not seem a lot, but when you have to be in 'mode' and are this 'fantasy' figure, turning someones fantasy into reality, it is hard work. My favourite type of session is a very intense, heavy session with lots of whipping and other tortures. I have gained a reputation for being a hard 'player', so if someone comes to me and asks for something specific, they will get it.
I find that a lot of men are not honest about what they are 'into' and cannot accept their feelings so are not honest with me, which I do not like. Being honest makes it so much easier for a session to be enjoyable for both the 'slave' and the Mistress.
Do you travel abroad for SM business?
Being independent also means I am able to travel abroad to work. I visit Amsterdam on a regular basis and also go over to London. I also go back to New York at least a couple of times a year to visit family and sometimes work. I have found that the scene has changed a great deal in the 5 years I have been away from New York. I have recently returned from the OWK in the Czech Republic, to attend their Celebrations and once again make videos, my first for about 4 years. I made a video in May of this year, making the cameraman faint in the process!!! The same cameraman was involved in my latest videos that I shot at the OWK early in September, and I am happy to say that he survived this time. I plan to make some more videos in the coming months, both at the OWK and at my studio.
Very strange but true...
A funny thing happened to me the other night. I had arranged to meet a friend for a drink. I was not in 'mode' at this time as Mistress Shane, I was myself having a quite drink or so I thought……
Having sat at a table at a bar in the center of town, outside, as it was such a nice evening, the discussion had moved on from how was work, the trouble my friend was having with her children, to boyfriends…… when suddenly from nowhere an old client of mine dived to the floor at my feet, kissing them and proclaiming how honoured he was to see me, Mistress Shane.
My friend was somewhat dumbstruck by what she was witnessing and I just wanted to kick the guy as hard as I could. However, my profesional self clicked into gear very quickly and I quietly but firmly told the guy to stand up, leave me in peace and move on. He didn't seem a bit perturbed by what he had just done, although after he had gone we seemed to get a few strange glances from people on the other tables and from the waiting staff.
Just a part of my life as a Mistress, sometimes things that happen are very strange but true……….
